Action News Now reporter Sade Pullen breaks down the measure.

WILLOWS, Calif. – A new sales tax is going on the November ballot for voters in Willows. Measure I is a 1.5 percent sales tax measure that will be on your November ballot if you live in Willows.

“We literally have done everything we can to prevent this,” Willows Fire Chief Nathan Monck said.

Willow’s City manager Marti Brown said the city has been struggling financially. Brown said if Measure I passes, the 1.5% sales tax increase would add 15₵ to a $10.00 or $1.50 to $100 taxable purchase. The added money would go towards public safety, recreation, library services, city infrastructure, and emergencies.

“It would increase the sales tax from 7.25 percent to 8.75 percent, and it’s estimated to generate up to 2.3 million dollars a year for the city and city services,” Brown said.
