Redding City Council considers adult business ordinance | News [Video]

REDDING, Calif. – The Redding City Council held their first meeting of the new year Tuesday. One of the agenda items related to the city’s ordinance regarding adult businesses and what actually constitutes that designation. 

The review of this particular statute stems from Kiss Me Novelties, a local lingerie store, after moving their location to downtown Redding. Store owner Stephanie Drew tells Action News Now that she modified the stores business model so as not to be classified as an adult business. 

After a presentation from city attorney Christian Curtis and public comment that included the majority in favor of businesses like Drew’s in downtown, the council voted unanimously to send the ordinance to the planning commission for review and to make recommendations for any changes. 

Drew says that the city should be careful how they would draft any changes saying, “It’s going to encompass corporations such as Walmart, Target, Rite-Aid, and …
