Anchorage Middletown Fire firefighter remembered as ‘servant’ after death in drowning accident | News from WDRB [Video]

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) — Officials with Anchorage Middletown Fire and EMS said the firefighter who died at Barren River Lake always wanted to help people.

On Monday, department spokesperson Jordan Yuodis said Sgt. Christian Smith drowned while swimming at Barren River Lake in southern Kentucky, about 100 miles from Bowling Green.

Smith was 35 years old. He had been with Anchorage Middletown Fire since 2014 and was assigned to Rescue Company 33.

Smith was known to have a servant’s heart and loved to teach and work with his crew. Capt. Brian Lowry said Smith leaves behind a hard void to fill.

“Christian was a dedicated husband, a dedicated firefighter and just a dedicated person all around, he’s going to be missed very much,” Lowry said. “My heart goes out from our department to his family and loved ones. And we just appreciate the support of the community in these trying times.”
