CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — DPS and other law enforcement officials are gathering to host a barbecue plate benefit on Saturday to help fellow Trooper Oscar Loya cover medial bills as he battles cancer.
The benefit will be from 11 a.m. – 7 p.m. at the Corpus Christi Christian Fellowship on South Staples Street. Each plate will be $15.
Loya was diagnosed with germinoma cancer — a type of germ cell tumor that is usually found in the brain — and has been on leave since June.
He is a Marine veteran and spent his first year at DPS in the George West office.
