SUPERIOR, Wis. (KBJR/Gray News) – Authorities say a retired pastor has been found dead after going ice skating over the weekend.
According to the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office, Greg Garmer’s body was found where he had fallen through the ice near Woodstock Bay.
Garmer, 78, was reported missing on Sunday afternoon by his wife after he never returned from ice skating.
Authorities said his body was found around 4 p.m. Monday.
Garmer was a member of the Gloria Dei Lutheran Church. He served as an interim pastor at the First Lutheran Church and was a longtime pastor at the French River Lutheran.
“He was a beloved member of the church and wider community; dedicated to the care and service of all. He was an avid outdoors person, the first and last of the season to be out cross-country skiing. He will be deeply missed,” officials with the First Lutheran Church shared.
