Bond hearing waived for suspect in killing of Churchs Chicken employee [Video]

MEMPHIS, Tenn. (WMC) – The bond hearing for the woman accused of killing a Church’s Chicken employee was waived–meaning she’ll remain behind bars for now.

Memphis police say 45-year-old Monica Williams killed 48-year-old Anitra West after a verbal argument over a drive-thru order.

Williams’ attorney Scott Hall said once a judge holds a preliminary hearing and hears the evidence, then a bond can be set.

“Basically, we don’t get discovering in the general session court,” Hall said. “We only get the affidavit of complaint, and we have to do our investigation based on that. And we’re currently speaking with people and investigators are talking with witnesses and trying to develop a defense.”

Hall says based on the affidavit, there are no eyewitnesses to the shooting.

MPD’s report details that Williams was on the phone at the time of the shooting.

Williams’ preliminary court hearing will be held August 20.

West leaves behind a 12-year-old daughter.
