Boston Police Commissioner Michael Cox touted the lowest number of annual homicides recorded in the city in decades last week, saying “the city has never been safer.”But 5 Investigates’ Brittany Johnson spoke with community advocates who say the city has more work to do to address violence in some parts of the city.In 2022 there were 40 homicides, 37 in 2023 and 24 in 2024.”We celebrate the decline. We don’t want anyone to go through what many of us have gone through even before me,” said Chaplain Clementina Chery, whose son Louis was killed in 1993 at just 15 years old.She founded the Louis D. Brown Peace Institute in his name — and has been trying to address violent crime ever since.
