Burley Methodist Church aids hurricane victims [Video]

BURLEY — The small Burley United Methodist Church recently made a big donation to help victims of hurricanes Helene and Milton.

The church — which has been part of the Burley community for more than 100 years — donated $100,000 on Oct. 17 to the United Methodist Committee on Relief to help those hammered by both storms. The large endowment from such a small congregation was made possible by decisions made more than 30 years ago, said Jim Kempton, finance committee chair for the church.

“It was something that could not have been done without the foresight of business and agriculture people in the area,” Kempton, a retired U.S. Air Force fighter jet pilot, said.

The relief money was pulled from the church’s Burley United Methodist Church Foundation — a nonprofit dedicated to supporting ministry services for the Burley church — and from its Future Vision Fund. The Future Vision …
