Church members stir controversy at Spearfish Middle School [Video]

RAPID CITY, S.D. (KOTA) – Sojourn Church members of Spearfish passed out Bibles outside of Spearfish Middle School Tuesday morning, and some parents were worried.

This comes after the Oklahoma State Department of Education announced a request for proposal of the purchase of 55,000 King James Bibles that also contain the Pledge of Allegiance, Declaration of Independence, the Constitution, and the Bill of Rights for use in Oklahoma classrooms.

This request created controversy because the only Bible meeting the criteria was the $60 “God Bless the USA Bible” which was endorsed by former President Donald Trump. While the publishers claim the Bible is not political and has nothing to do with any political campaign, they did pay for Trump’s name image and likeness license.

The church members in Spearfish were not handing out the Bibles on school property. According to school officials, they were also not harassing students. Parents who were uneasy about the event believed …
