WASHINGTON — A federal judge will now decide whether the former head of intelligence for DC Police tipped off the leader of the far-right Proud Boys about an ongoing investigation into him in late 2020.
Trial began last week for retired Lt. Shane Lamond, who was in charge of the department’s intelligence branch as civil unrest repeatedly broke out in 2020 following the murder of George Floyd and President-elect Donald Trump’s loss in the presidential election. During one of those instances in December 2020 following a pro-Trump rally in D.C., members of the Proud Boys tore down a Black Lives Matter banner from the historic Asbury United Methodist Church and lit it on fire.
