COLUMBIA COUNTY, Ga. (WJBF) – A local nonprofit dedicated to helping mothers in need is asking for your help to take its next big step.
‘Prepare for Babies’ has provided resources for more than 200 mothers in our area so far. But, one resource it hasn’t been able to provide is housing, which is what many of those mothers need.
“Seventy-six women of those two-hundred have needed housing, so we are just always kind of looking for new ways that we can house them,” said Mandy Metzler, the founder of Prepare for Babies.
The faith-based organization wants to buy a property with a house and cottage in Columbia County. Six mothers, as well as their babies, can live there for 18 months as they work to get back on their feet.
Some donors have agreed to finance the maternity home if the nonprofit pays the $170,000 down payment.
