NKY church fire leads to 2 firefighters being arrested: Court docs [Video]

GRANT COUNTY, Ky. (WXIX) – Two firefighters are facing arson charges in connection with a Grant County church fire.

Corinth firefighters Brendan Gibson, 24, and Robert Hughes, 23, appeared in court on Tuesday.

The fire was reported just before 6 a.m. on July 8 at Shiloh Full Gospel Baptist Church.

The Grant County Sheriff’s Office says they responded with Corinth, Williamstown and Dry Ridge fire departments.

Gibson’s and Hughes’ arrest reports say both of them were among the first firefighters to arrive at the church.

Investigator’s findings into the fire suggested Gibson and Hughes started the fire themselves, according to the arrest report.

Kentucky State Police says Gibson and Hughes admitted to their actions, which resulted in the fire.

The two firefighters are being held in the Grant County Detention Center on $10,000 bonds.

They will return to court for a preliminary hearing at 11 a.m. on July 17.
