Rapid City Legal & Finance Committee approves whistleblower protection policy [Video]

RAPID CITY, S.D. (KOTA) – Protecting its employees for standing-up and doing the right-thing is a priority in Rapid City for city employees.

Wednesday, the Legal and Finance Committee approved the city’s whistleblower protection policy.

The policy allows city employees to report any suspected or known dishonest, unethical or illegal activities that take place in City Hall. The city says, it will ensure the protection of whistleblowers in compliance with local, state and federal law.

Here in South Dakota, state law gives employees protections when reporting wrong-doing in good faith. In addition, the policy encourages employees who suspect or have knowledge of unethical activity to report it to the Human Resources Director or their supervisor.

The whistleblower protection policy will go to the City Council for final approval on Monday.
