BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WBRC) – Two Birmingham business owners say thieves are using their names in a scam involving Christian dating sites. They say the conversation starts off innocently enough with a possible match, then comes an attempt to steal thousands of dollars.
Business owner James Casteel and his wife says these scammers are pretending to be private investigators for their business Casteel & Associates. He says over the last few days, more and more victims have called his his private investigator firm with questions.
“We started getting one or two calls a day for the first two days. Now it is up to six or seven calls a day,” said Casteel.
