Top-ranked Vols await next challenge in CWS after historic start [Video]

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) -Tennessee baseball had an electric and historic weekend as it began the gauntlet of the Men’s College World Series in Omaha.

On Friday, a legendary five-hit performance from Christian Moore and a walk-off single by Dylan Dreiling in the bottom of the ninth inning willed the Vols to a 12-11 win over No. 6 Florida State. Moore achieved a feat that hadn’t been sniffed in decades: he became just the second player ever to hit for the cycle in a College World Series game. The first was Jerry Kindall of Minnesota back in 1956.

Moore joins five other Vols in the history books to have hit for the cycle including Chris Burke (2001), Matt Duffy (2011), Jordan Rodgers (2016), Trey Lipscomb (2022) and Zane Denton (2023). His five hits on the evening also tied his career high.
